The Rest of the Weekend

Cliff's Notes version: JP is graduated. The in-laws are back in Maryland. I am still pregnant.

On Saturday I spent the morning lying around the house recovering from the physical exertion of the night before. My in-laws came over for an hour or so to see Landon (if I hadn't mentioned it before, they stayed at a hotel for this trip, thank god, especially since JP's 91-year-old grandmother ended up in a wheelchair a few days before they left and wouldn't have been able to go up our stairs anyway) while JP and I ran out to get some lunch. They left at Landon's nap time and I spend a few more hours lazing about the house wondering what on earth I was going to do with myself if this baby waits until June 4th to be born.

We all got back together at 5:00 for a fancy graduation dinner at Shoreline Grill. My sister, her boyfriend, and a few of JP's MBA classmates (our Indians, as we fondly call them) were able to celebrate with us since their families couldn't travel to Austin for the festivities. It was a lovely dinner and Landon was very good at the fancy restaurant even if he didn't eat a single thing. After dinner everyone gathered back at our house to eat the delicious cake that Landon and I baked the day before and to play washers in the backyard. Eating and beating people at games are JP's two favorite things in the world besides swimming, so I'd say his graduation celebration was a big success.

(Please excuse the pastel orange icing. We didn't have enough food coloring for burnt orange and I had exhausted all my creative juices after coming up with the idea to stick some of the homemade cream cheese icing into a ziploc bag to pipe out a message on top.)

On Sunday I had a massage (possibly/hopefully my last prenatal one) and then after some more lazing about the house, we decided to take Landon to the pool.

It is a testament to how much I love my child, and perhaps to how seriously bored I am at home, that I put on a swim suit at 37.5 weeks pregnant and wore it in a crowded public place. My maternity suit is black with a white stripe and I felt like a giant orca in a sea of slimmer, sexier dolphins. But the water felt nice.

At first Landon wasn't so sure about the big pool (the baby pool was closed for reasons I don't want to know about). He never went in it last summer, though we didn't really try to acclimate him. JP was doing so much coaching that the last thing he wanted to do after an 8-hour saturday swim meet was go back to the same pool with us, and it was so horrifically hot outside that not even the pool sounded as refreshing as staying indoors wearing as little clothes as possible with the AC on. But Landon was very excited about his shark swimwear and so strangely confident in his ability to swim ("Mommy let me go, I want to SWIM!") that he quickly became fearless.

He starts swim lessons in June, so hopefully we can keep him safe from his overestimation of his abilities until them.

The outing was a great way to waste away the afternoon and cap off the weekend. Now I'm back at work, having lots of irritatingly unproductive Braxton-Hicks contractions, and feeling very ready for this baby to be born. For whatever reason, JP has decided that tomorrow is the big day- if you would like to record your own prediction as to the day, name, or anything else, please do! It'll be fun to see if anyone gets it right.

  1. Haha, everytime you update, my immediate thought is "Baby?!"

Sounds like a great weekend! The pool looks nice! Can't wait for pools to open here. I'm hoping my kid will actually swim this summer. Last summer was epic pool drama.

  2. It WAS too hot for the pool last summer! People in other parts of the country just don't understand.

I know this last part is rough. I'm glad you are getting to rest, even if it is boring!

  3. Liv you're right on the name, but I had to delete your comment because I've since fixed that picture ;) Feel free to re-post with the date and thanks for the congrats!

  4. haha, I thought that might be revealing too much...sorry about that...it IS a lovely name, though! I am going to guess she is going to be born June 1. Congrats again to your family for many wonderful achievements!

  6. What a brave little shark you have! He looks so thrilled to be there. And you look adorable in your swimsuit. You wear babies well. These last few weeks are the worst, but hang in there. June 4 is right around the corner! I can't wait to find out her name

  8. You look adorable, and Landon looks like he would happily jump to you all day! Hope JP put the camera down and took over the "catching"-- or was it your intention to induce labor?

I vote for June 1st, my mom's birthday. ALL the other June birthdays I know are June 11th (DH, Dad, King Kammehameha, Bob Greene's daughter (in his book, Good Morning Merry Sunshine) and others. Yes I know that's a week late--sorry about that!

No idea on the name, except I think is will be something classic that fits with Landon. I'm sure the name (and the little girl) will be lovely!

  9. The name was revealed and I missed it??? Bah! My guess is that it is one of these five:

    Anabelle, Kira, Veronica, Kendall, Stella

Middle name Paige. I'm not going to try to guess the date.

  10. It was inadvertently, sorry Hanah! Although now I'm worried that if too many people give me guesses/suggestions I'll start doubting our choice!

  11. The video is so cute!

And, did I miss something, or are you still having a scheduled c-section?

Either way, best wishes, and I'm so happy for all the exciting things in your life these days. :)

  12. Thanks MJS! And to answer your question, yes I do still have a c-section scheduled for June 4th, but since that's at 39 weeks there's still a chance she will be born before then. And now that I'm full-term, I'd be happy to welcome her a few days early :)

  14. One of the magistrates at my court has a great story about how he overestimated his swimming abilities as a small child. He apparently gathered all his family around to show off how he could swim, jumped in and sank like a stone. While the rest of his family was waiting for him to demonstrate his swimming ability, his older sister yelled, 'what are you doing? he can't swim!' and jumped in after him.

  15. Last day of May. I hope you go early, for your sake!

  16. I'm guessing Friday the 28th!

    Good luck in anycase!

  17. I'm guessing she'll make you think she's waiting for you to give her the eviction notice and you'll finally go into labor on the 3rd. :)

I love the picture of Landon by the pool on his own. Like, "See? I'm super cute! I know it!" He is too adorable!

  18. I'm guessing that you go into labor on Sunday afternoon. Since this is a holiday weekend, a majority of nurses and doctors probably have scheduled to be off this long weekend. Murphy's Law will get you every time. I would call your OBGYN and double check to make sure who is on call this weekend. Good Luck, and I will offer up Adrienne as the name du jour.

  19. Agree on the holiday weekend-- the lactation nurse will be off, too, and other amenities will not be available either. Mother Murphy's law.

How about Sheridan? Sounds like it would go well with Landon, but I don't know your last name, so guessing is harder! Foremrly-male names or family names as girls' first names are popular here. (Now the "science" of top-one-hundred-but-no-higher formula may throw off the traditional ebb-and-wane of name popularity, though.) Addison, Madison, Sophia? I seem to be stuck on three-syllable names...
