All I Need is Bread and Cheese

Just before bed at 10:30, I reflected back on what I ate today:

Breakfast: plain bagel, plain cream cheese
Lunch: 2 pieces cheese pizza
Afternoon snack: cottage cheese, cherry tomatoes
Dinner: French bread, some variety of semi-soft cheese, prosciutto, red wine
Dessert: apple pie, vanilla ice cream

and I was horrified to realize that 3 cherry tomatoes constituted my entire fruit and veggie intake for the day. I hadn't brushed my teeth yet, so I rushed to the kitchen to eat an orange to ward off scurvy. I wish the produce section of our downtown grocery store didn't have such bad selection and high prices because I actually love fresh fruits and vegetables and my diet used to include a lot of them. Yet another reason to look forward to the move to Austin.

Other thoughts: every thing I ate today involved a type of bread and full fat cheese. Obviously the south beach diet could never be an option for me. And I'm culinarily rather boring.

  5. It's better than what I ate yesterday! Heh - I had carpet installation take place yesterday, so I couldn't even get into the kitchen because they were putting furniture in there to move it out of the way . . . so I had to order a pizza. That's all I ate. All day. A pizza. How far I've fallen!

  8. Mmmmm what a delicious diet - especially your dinner. Yum. Pizza has tomato sauce. That's at least one vegetable. And Apple pie TOTALLY counts as a fruit. I count it regularly. And if I eat carrot cake, it's a vegetable. ;)

its so hard for me to keep my fruits and veggies fresh-- I always end up throwing them out for being old and moldy!

  12. That's one thing I've appreciated most from our move from Chicago to San Antonio--the wonderful selection of fresh fruits and veggies year round! We'll be back in Chicago next year, and missing the yummy avocados, tomatoes, bananas, etc., etc...

You're menu from yesterday made me very hungry today... doesn't sound that bad to me--I love bread and cheese!

  14. Excellent point about the apples, I don't know how I missed those! Maybe because they were covered in sugar and ice cream, but still, they totally count!

I still think it's good I ate that last minute orange, from what wikipedia told me about scurvy, you don't want to mess with it :P
