Day 289

When Landon was in the NICU I organized my pictures in folders by day: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, etc. It seemed like each day was so different and so full of milestones (first day off CPAP! first time we saw his eyes! first day without a feeding tube! first day without nasal cannula!) that I wanted to keep each one separate. Obviously the day-by-day organization method would soon get out of hand (and believe it or not, I do go days without taking a picture), so once he came home I switched to a monthly archiving system.

But sometimes it's fun to think about how many days have gone by and marvel at how many changes have sneaked up on us. When did they happen? When did he start using his hands so purposefully? When did he develop that sense of humor that tells him it's funny when mommy makes the quacking noise before she takes a picture? Because we see him everyday it's easy to lose perspective of how amazing his leaps in development really are.

Here he is on Day 12:

And, in the same chair, on Day 289:

It's almost like he's a completely different baby. And while I loved super cuddly, fall asleep after five minutes, newborn Landon, I think I prefer the super fun, full of personality, 9.5 month version.

  1. I just want to give him a big hug and kiss - he is so adorable!

I am with you! I spent a little while yesterday with Eden at her daycare, and all those super-teeny sweet little babies are cute...but I would never want to go backwards. Sassy, willful Eden is much more fun!

  2. I did the same thing with Bear's NICU pictures. Those 16 days were carefully documented. Somewhere in the past 15 months I have begun living life between the pictures and the pictures have become far less frequent. It is crazy how much they change. Bear had his 15 month checkup yesterday. That blows me away.

  3. Here at almost 18 months and I can't believe how fast the changes still come. He was a baby in his Easter picture, but a toddler now, a month later. It's staggering! And more fun every day.

  4. That reminds me of that country song ... maybe by Rascal Flatts? ... about counting the moments with his family in days, instead of years.

They do indeed grow up so fast. He has certainly come a LONG way!

by the by ... I ADORE those firetruck pajamas. TOO CUTE.

  5. I think Sumo and Landon have lots of the same clothes - he also has those fireman PJ's.

    He's come a long way!

  7. It IS fun to see how much babies have changed. I'm excited to meet the kids I babysit for in a couple years and see how different they are.

Landon looks so happy! not to mention adorable :)

  9. You think it's almost time to retire that Papasan?

Oh where will you put him then?

    What a total cutie!

  10. It was retired long ago - we had to get it back out because the little bugger threw up all over his high chair and I couldn't figure out where else to feed him his breakfast :)

It didn't work out too well though, it really is too small and reclined!
