In-Home Getaway

JP and I have had a few opportunities to get away since Landon has been born, but somehow they're never the restful experience I hope they'll be- probably because they always involve a big event, a friend's couch, and/or a very early flight home. But this morning three things came together to create the perfect mini vacation: my office was closed for MLK, JP's classes hadn't started yet, and daycare was open. JP, who can go back to sleep easily no matter how long he's been up, got up with the Landon and whisked him off to his baby friends while I remained in dream land, and then he came back to join me. And we slept in until 9:30 -- 9:30!! Together!! And then we woke up and just chatted in bed for a while- there was lounging. in the morning. when a toddler would normally be running around screaming and trying to get the dog to read him a book. And then, once we were up, we went on a sandwich lunch date. And there was more talking and no sippy cups and trying to keep things out of Landon's reach. It was the best morning I've had in two years.

I spent the rest of the day running some much needed errands and cleaning the house. JP got three business meetings and a haircut out of the way (his classes start tomorrow). And then we picked up Landon early and enjoyed several hours outside together on this gorgeous, 75-degree day.

I've spent a few nights at the Four Season's- it never left me feeling near this rested and recharged. I think this is how I'm going to use my vacation days this year.

  2. Part of me is thinking, wow that does sound amazing...and I can't wait to have one of those days sometime soon too. The other part of me is thinking, oh shit, this post came just after "18 Months" ... I have a ways to go!

  3. Good for you! I still remember attending a conference and the sheer bliss of waking up in the morning in the hotel room and using the bathroom uninterrupted.

  4. We have family near and are often able to take a few hrs to have lunch or go to a movie, or even the grocery store. by far better than the entire week we spent away from our son. on trips it is always about rushing and being somewhere on time or not missing something. you never get to sleep in. but hey a few hrs for lunch and a movie = recharge.
