GIRL!
I realized right when the ultrasound tech made her announcement that I was more attached idea of a baby boy than I thought (I think mostly because I already had the name picked out and I'm really sad not to use it) and I think JP is still in a daze. But everything looks great and we are So excited. It's going to take a few days to get used to using "her" and "she"- even after finding out I kept referring to "his head" or "his leg" on the screen. But baby girl Lag Liv looks fantastic and everything is measuring perfectly.
Everything with me also looks good - both the placenta and cervix look exactly as they should so that was a big relief. We met briefly with the high risk doctor who is also the ultrasound reading specialist (I'm sure there's a fancier name for that) and he affirmed that he saw nothing concerning in the images. My OB was also pleased, and once armed with the sonogram pictures, was far less concerned about the weekend bleeding. But because it is so important to get to 28 weeks, she still advised for us to avoid intercourse until then. I am also to avoid vigorous exercise (I assured her that was not a problem as I'd been avoiding it since I was pregnant with Landon) and should delay the big shopping trips and nursery decorating plans until after that 28-week mark. She said my current schedule shouldn't be a problem and I shouldn't be too worried, it just seems wise to avoid introducing anything extra to my days until we reach a safe point and I'm totally fine with that.
So it was a great appointment. I still can't believe we're having a girl- Landon's going to have a little sister! I need a name- our hypothetical boy was named, but I've got nothing on the girl list. I also need to start shopping (online shopping) for non-frilly, non-overly-cutesy girly things.
I'm just so, so happy everything was picture-perfect. And I can't wait to watch that little girl wrap JP around her baby finger.

Congratulations!! I totally knew it was a girl, only a girl can cause this much drama before she's even born. ;)
ReplyDeletecongrats!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the girl!I waivered, myself:I really wanted a girl, we a girl name picked out couldn't agree on a second boy name. But I already knew how to "do boys", and boys and girls are way, way different. (We took a little girl friend with us to Disneyland: she knew the location of, and had to use, every women's restroom in the park! She also was very picky about where we purchased her ice cream. Boys just go, "Yay, ice cream!" Ditto with clothes, most toys, room decorations ... You will get to participate in the ongoing debate: which hurts more to step on in the dark: Barbie shoes or Legos? Again, congrats.
ReplyDeleteWooot! Congratulations! I was really surprised to hear it was a girl - why? I don't know! But that's so sweet. You've got lots of time to think of girl names - there are zillions of beautiful ones out there, I'm sure you'll pick a lovely one.
ReplyDeleteI remember crying when I found out my son was a boy. But now I wouldn't trade him! Your mind will get with the program and supply the right pronouns soon enough. :)
Yay! Congratulations on the great ultrasound. And you got your sex life back! Rock!
ReplyDeleteGirls names are WAY easier than boy names, I find. So many good ones!
Congratulations!!! I found myself kind of upset both times I found out I was having a girl - I grew up with brothers and couldn't really imagine what I'd do with girls - but I'd say we've adjusted quite well. :) I'm glad to hear the appointment went well, too - here's hoping for good news the whole way through!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS!! As a mom of 2 boys, I really hope to hear "It's a girl" in the u/s room next time around :) I recommend BabyGap-- I drool at the girls' stuff every time I am over in the boys' section! Glad everything looks great.
ReplyDeleteI think it'll be so fun to have one of each!!! I am going to find out in the next few weeks whether baby #3 is a boy or if it's girl #3. I honestly don't have a preference this time (with #1, I wanted and got a girl, with #2 I wanted a boy and got a girl). Since I am used to girls, I don't really like sports or boy toys, and have tons of girl stuff, a girl seems like she would fit right in. But I'd like a boy for variety. I can't for the life of me think up a boy name though! You'd think I'd have one with two girls already named, but nope! I have about 5 girl names that I could happily use and 0 boy names (well, maybe 1 that I could tolerate).
ReplyDeleteYAY! Congratulations! That is so exciting! And my husband will be happy to hear that you thought you were having a boy and are having a girl--I am convinced it is a boy and he is gung-ho girl...but we are waiting until the birth to find out, so your news will be his beacon :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Congrats on getting your sex life back - at least in the foreseeable future!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Landon is going to be such a good big brother!
ReplyDeletecongrats! glad to hear everything is coming along well. landon will be a great big bro to your little one!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I have to say that having a baby girl (now 10 months) has been just awesome. As for cute-but-not-too frilly things, check out Hanna Andersson if you haven't already (the pj's are awesome, for both boys and girls).
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!! Once the shock wears off, you will be thrilled to be having a girl! I have one of each and it is sooooo much fun! I'll start working on a girl name to throw into the mix!
ReplyDeletePatty
Great news! There is a ton of awesome girl stuff out there. Believe me, I've been tempted to buy it and I have two boys!!
ReplyDeleteYay! Congratulations! My grandmother said you can stop as soon as you have one of each! :-)
ReplyDeleteNames are hard. We only had a girl name, so I was sure we were having a boy. Lucky for us we had a girl!
Aw, congrats to you and JP! Glad there is nothing to be too worried about.
ReplyDelete"high risk doctor who is also the ultrasound reading specialist" = "perinatologist"
It's a mouthful right? My Dad is a perinatologist and when I was little I was a bit confused and told everyone he was a paleontologist. Ever since, he's found it more effective to refer to himself as a "high risk maternal-fetal specialist."
So excited for you and to hear what names you come up with. "Landon" is awesome, so you've set a high standard.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS LL!!! I'm SO excited for you guys!
ReplyDeleteIt's so much fun to think of names. I always actually wondered: how did you come up with Landon's name? Is there a story behind it? ...I'm sure you guys will pick an equally lovely girl name too. :)
Best of luck in the coming months (and beyond!).
so exciting- she will truly be a blessing to your family! I always imagined myself with four boys so if my next one is a girl I think I will understand how you feel. But she will have you guys just enamored. Now I'm really curious to know that name you originally picked out, you wont be willing to share will you?
ReplyDeletecongrats! I am a recent follower of your blog (I found you googling "pregnant" and "summer associate" -- neither of which I am, yet) and I love hearing about your experiences. Most of all, I love knowing that it's possible to do this and be so positive and upbeat!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! Yay for girls. What is it with girl's names? There are just so darn many.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! Even though you were hoping for a boy, a girl will be just as equally fulfilling and, who knows, might even EXCEED your expectations! ;)
ReplyDeleteI have been following your pregnancy posts and totally saying "ME TOO!" on every one (like not researching the pregnancy this time around, and just enjoying it more) as I too am due in June (6/26) with #2 which is... another boy! I was the opposite of you - we were hoping for a girl this time (one boy, one girl, end of story), mostly because I have absolutely NO ideas for names for another boy, LOL. We used all the good ones on the first one... There are SO many awesome girl names, though - you will have fun picking one!
Congrats again!
Shawna
And yet another Congrats! :D
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear all is going well for Mom and baby. And I'm sure you will adjust to the unexecpted.
Funny story - our first was a girl and although I was hoping for a girl the second time around, my husband was sort of hoping for a boy. We had a boy's name picked out but couldn't agree on a possible girl's name. Never knew the sex of either child until they were born. When our second girl was delivered, the dr mistakenly thought we had our hearts set on a boy because we had a boy's name but none for a girl. This was RIGHT after I delivered and he said "Don't worry, you can always try for a boy next time". Completely spontaneously (with no putting brain in gear before opening mouth), I said "There won't be no *** next time!".
Cracked up that delivery room I did although I must admit I was a little embarassed. But only a little; hey, I had an epidural with the first but not with this one. Did I mention it right after the delivery? :D
Congratulations!!! I love having one of each sex - truly, it is fun.
ReplyDeleteFor non-girlie stuff, my favorite places are Gymboree and Target. Yes, Gymboree. During clearance and Gymbucks periods, their prices are not that expensive. seriously. And I mostly shop online.
Sadly, I have no advice for saving your girl from Princess Fever. I tried my best, but my girl is all about the princess crap. Sigh.
Congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteYay!!! I was like you, I think having only had a boy, I couldn't imagine anything different than trucks& dinosaurs. But your hotly side comes back REAL quick. :) so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I just noticed my comment. I sent it from my iPhone, which auto-spelled "girly" for me... as "hotly." Um, not really, iPhone, but thanks all the same.
ReplyDelete;)
