Tonight JP gave Landon his bottle, brushed his teeth, read him his book, sang their song on the walk to his bedroom, and laid him down in the crib. There was one little protest cry as JP closed the door.
And then silence.
I started to worry he wasn't breathing or something else terrible had happened so I sent JP back in to check and he found Landon was curled up in a little Landon-sized ball, fast asleep with a peaceful expression on his face. This was actually a little bit before his usual bedtime and he had been perky and very much awake throughout the nighttime routine. We were prepared to withstand some crying. Both of his naps today involved less than 30 seconds of protest so we knew we were making progress but were used to nighttime being a much bigger struggle.
I know enough after 11 months not to throw a big "my child goes to sleep" party yet, but I now join the leagues of parents who have told me, "it takes three nights". Today may have also been one of his best days ever temperamentally- he was so happy and giggly and playful. I kept pausing my lectures to go play with him, I just couldn't help it. Maybe he's finally realized that sleep makes life so much better. Tomorrow for the first time in a long time, I won't be dreading bedtime. Yay!

congrats!!! I am so happy for you! I was going to leave some advice, but I figured you were adviced out already! SO I will just leave you with a big CONGRATS!!!! Let me know if ya'll are coming to Kingwood anytime soon- I am DYING to see the Landon!!!
ReplyDeleteyay!!!! woo-hoo! don't mind if we have a party for you, right? :)
ReplyDeletecongratulations! hopefully your days (and bedtimes!) will become a lot less stressful now.
ReplyDelete~ps
That is awesome. I don't know how you made it this long. I would have died.
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely an awesome feeling! Once they can soothe themselves to sleep it is really great. Now there may be times when he is up to his old tricks again and testing you, or teething or whatever. But now that those first 3 days are over you know you can do it and that Landon can too.
ReplyDeleteThat's GREAT!!! Enjoy this new rested feeling.
ReplyDeleteCharlie's bedtime has always been earlier than I expected it to be too. I think once they get too tired it gets even harder for them to go to sleep for some reason.
Hurray! Truly a milestone -- even if you still have some hard nights.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Maybe you are rounding the corner!
ReplyDeleteWow, seems like moving to Texas did the whole household some good!
ReplyDeleteSounds great that nightime is getting easier! I am loathe to sound ominous, but kids are continuously changing their habits and rhythms s they go along. Start a new daycare, new baby in the house, new big boy bed...all these things and more can disrupt an otherwise great rhythm. But it will pass!!!
Just keep being great loving parents, and Landon will turn out great, no matter what.
How exciting! What a difference a month makes... a difference you all deserved! Hopefully the 1 year old Landon is this happy, well-rested Landon :)
ReplyDeleteYippeee! I <3 sleep!
ReplyDeleteStick with the routine Mom :) I wonder if putting him down earlier made a small difference too? A lot of people think you should keep them up longer so they are more tired but I have read (and discovered first hand) that that is not true!!!
Congrats again!
wow- yay for an easy night!
