We spent this past weekend at my parent's new house and I have wonderful pictures and stories to share, but first, I have important time-sensitive decisions for you to make about what I should keep from my most recent Fix! Because yes, after a year or so off, and in honor of my birthday and the (now temporary) lift of my credit card diet, I signed up for another round of Stitch Fix!
For those who don't know, Stitch Fix is a personal styling service where you fill out a detailed style profile, including sizes, preferences, needs, wants, non-wants, and price range, pay $20, and wait for a magical box to arrive on your doorstep full of clothes picked out just for you! You get a style sheet with outfit ideas and a personalized note. If you keep anything, you can deduct your $20 styling fee from the cost (making the styling free) and if you keep everything you get 25% off the whole order! You get a postage paid return package to send back anything you don't keep, give feedback on your items, and then decide when you want a box to come again. For those who hate shopping or don't have time or just want someone else to mix up their wardrobe, it's great! I enjoyed my Fixes in the past, but took a break when I decided I wasn't getting enough items I loved and I no longer needed to expand my wardrobe. (Note: the links in this post are referral links.)
On to the items!
Item 1: 41Hawthorn Shelley Split Neck Blouse, Coral, XS ($48.00)
I like a geometric pattern and I love coral/orange, but this just isn't killing it for me. But it would be nice and light to wear during the summer. If it cost less, I'd probably keep it, but for $48? Probably no? (After typing this whole post I've realized this is my answer for everything. I have a lot of questions. Questions you'd think only I could answer, but instead am asking you.)
Verdict: Probably send back?
Item 2: Cosmic Blue Love Adrianne Distressed Boyfriend Jean, Light Blue, Size 2 ($88.00)
So I asked for white jeans, but they didn't have any in stock. As it turns out, I really do need other jeans- I currently have one pair that I like and I don't really even like them very much, but I HAAAATE shopping for jeans with the irrational fire of a thousand suns, so this could be very serendipitous. But I'm not 100% sold. Are they too short? They're supposed to be a little short I think? Right?
There's also this gap in the back, but all my jeans gap in the back, so maybe this is the way of the world. If I was keeping all 5 items and could get the 25% off, I'd keep these for sure.
Verdict: Undecided.
Item 3: Alice Blue Zinnia V Neck Blouse, White Floral, XS ($48.00)
I love a good floral, but I do not love sheer tops because I'm not big on layers or visible bras. It's too hot here for sleeves in the summer, even sheer ones, but if it was cool enough to make me want sleeves, I wouldn't want them to be sheer. Plus I just bought this floral tank from Express for $21 and it fits me perfectly, so I'm going to stick with that. (Right? Should I like the sheer?)
Verdict: Going back.
Item 4: Dear John Finnegan Roll Cuff Chino Short, Blue, Size 2 ($58.00)
I specifically asked for shorts. I have some old pairs from Express that are really too small/short for a woman of my now-advanced years. I like these. I like the faded blue color and relaxed fit but still fairly short length. Do I love them?
Verdict: Undecided; probably keep?
Item 5: 41Hawthorn Cristen Shirt Dress, White, XS ($78.00)
I assumed this would be a hard no. I look terrible in shirt dresses and anything that ties at the waist, but then I tried it on and I was no longer sure. I like the bright white and blue colors, I like the pattern, I like the neck, and I surprisingly like the fit. What's up is down. I usually have such strong opinions about my clothes, but I don't know anything anymore.
Verdict: Who knows; do you?
I do know that I need a better place to take brighter pictures. I also know that Stitch Fix seems to work better for some of my friends than it always does for me. Two of my favorite shirts in my closet are from Fixes in the past, so it's not that I never have victories, but I also enjoy shopping when I have the time for it and generally find cute things for far cheaper than the average Stitch Fix price point. Plus I'm (probably overly) picky about how clothes look and fit and don't like straying outside my comfort zone. But then I get something like that white/blue dress and think, maybe I should?
I do know that I love this necklace I got for Christmas from Stella and Dot after the cheap initials trio I got on etsy after Cora was born finally broke.
I love this new print from Cabana Life (they're getting more pieces) and I love that Cabana has extended my Lag Liv discount code of LLSPF through the end of the year for anyone who would like 20% off their order. I have found their stuff to be incredibly high quality- I'm not even mad I paid full price for the first five things I bought from them. I also got the girls their rash guard sets for Mexico from Cabana's end-of-summer sale and they were gorgeous and held up so well after endless hours in the pool, sun, and sea. My sets also still look perfect. I can barely even justify buying them something new for this summer, though of course I'll manage. (No referral links there, just a code if you want to use it!)
I'm also loving the Legend series a co-worker recommended and am very annoyed at the person taking so long to read Book 3 so I can't check it out from the online library. I'm not loving that Landon got stuck really high up in a tree today for nearly an hour and scraped his legs and arms all up trying to get down while obstinately refusing any advice and telling an increasingly stressed-out me that he's "always wanted a broken bone anyway." He was eventually able to jump out onto the roof and then climb down a different tree. He's literally grounded to the ground for the next month. Argh.
So tell me what to keep because I/you only have until Friday to put anything I/you don't want back in the mail!

I like the shirtdress - the print is good for spring and summer and you can wear it with navy leggings and flats in cooler weather. The rest I wasn't that much a fan. I usually end up ordering one thing from my Stich fix boxes so i guess thats a win.
ReplyDeleteI think the shorts are great. The shirtdress is fine but seems pricy--you always find such deals, and this isn't one. Everything else I'd send back.
ReplyDeleteThe one reason I'm still considering the shirt dress is that it is fully lined, which I love in a bright white summery option, and that's one thing I don't usually find in my discount shopping. But yeah, it's still pricey. I have some birthday money, so I'm trying to decide if I'd rather spend it on two cute, pricey-ish things and be done, or stretch it out over more discount shopping. So tough ;).
DeleteI think the clothes thing is hugely personal - while you look great in everything, the only things I really liked were the coral top and jeans! Probably because they're what most fit my style though (proving I'd be a terrible buyer for a store or the like). Good luck deciding!
ReplyDeleteThe shirt dress looks great on you! It is pricey but sometimes it's worth it :)
ReplyDeletei'd keep the shorts and return the rest. but your defense above of the shirt dress, to me reveals that deep down you want it. so keep it!
ReplyDeleteIt's more that i do think the dress is worth the money; I'm just not yet sure it flatters me. It's usually a shape and style I avoid, yet I keep looking at it. Maybe because it feels forbidden? I do love blue and white.
Deleteand i think you were too kind on that floral top. pretty yucky imo.
ReplyDeleteSo, the 41 Hawthorn stuff has held up for me very well and so far I can wash that stuff on delicate. So a bit expensive but the brand has been good quality. I also like the shorts and the coral top. Boyfriend jeans might look better with a tighter top? But I always thought boyfriend jeans were supposed to be a bit baggy...
ReplyDeleteI like the dress and vote yes on that one. Sometimes it pays to pay for a quality piece. And it could be versatile between seasons. I will say that you workout too much and do too much barre to settle for mom shorts. You should really go shorter or more fitted.
ReplyDeleteThe jeans length looks okay from the side but weird/short from the front! You need longer jeans! (Sucks, because the waist looks nice.) Hold out for white. I also like the shirt dress--white, blue, lined--a big plus! But...are we sure it doesn't just look like a picnic table? I want to love the floral. Is it really too sheer? That's a shame. I'd keep the shorts, though I won't lobby strongly for them.
ReplyDeleteKeep the dress - it looks SO great on you! I'd send the rest back.
ReplyDeleteI would keep the shorts and maybe the dress. Or maybe send it all back. I find with Stitch Fix that I try too hard to convince myself I like the stuff, because of the discount and the styling fee. And I agree with you that the prices are usually too steep compared to what I can find in stores at discount places.
ReplyDeleteI just went back to stitch fix after a year or so off and got the best fix ever. I say keep the jeans and the dress. Jeans are impossible and if you like them, keep them. You can get shorts like that anywhere.
ReplyDeleteI like the dress! And the jeans.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I don't love any of it. This is my problem with Stitch Fix & why I quit it (yet again) despite the fact that everyone else seems to adore it----nothing is AMAZING, but I feel like I have to convince myself that it is, so I can recover the styling fee. I also like shopping when I have the time, and can find much more flattering clothes for much better deals.
ReplyDeleteIf you MUST keep something, I'd go with the jeans because they look good and I agree that jean shopping is beyond hell.
I agree. I didn't find the dress flattering. I hate shirt dresses on me too. If you want to keep something - jeans and or coral top - otherwise I'd send all back.
DeleteIt's much more pricey but I have had good luck with trunk club - particularly if you are looking for something specific (white jeans or shorts).
For what it's worth, I like the shorts and the shirt dress. The jeans are cute but you are correct that they are too short. I am also tall (5'9") and I think the most flattering jeans hit right around the ankle bone. These are closer to--gasp--capri length. Not good. The floral shirt, in my opinion, is not good. I don't like to layer tops, especially in the summer, so this would be automatically DQed for me. The coral shirt is nice but you can find something like this at TJ Maxx for $12.99. Geometric-print sleeveless tops are so easy to find (if it had flattering short sleeves it would be a closer call). I agree with you that the fact that the dress is lined makes it quite desirable--you could wear it to work or toss a denim jacket on top and wear it casually with sandals. It's not too expensive, either. The shorts seem quite flattering and IMO good shorts are hard to find and worth the price.
ReplyDeleteLove love love the shirt dress and kind of loathe everything else. You have an adorable figure and can do so much better than those jeans. Also, you can find shorts that are remarkably similar and better price at JCrew factory.
ReplyDeleteI had to quit with the Stitch Fix. My fixes got progressively worse and I just couldn't deal with the flimsy/cheap feel of the clothes they kept sending.
I say keep the shorts and return the rest. I am not a fan of the shirtdress. Here's where I try to sound like your BFF in the dressing room and not a bitchy internet troll - but I don't love it on you. You have an amazing figure (like size 2 and tall? I want to hate you, but I can't!), but with your lack of hips, accentuating your tiny waist also accentuates your lack of hips and makes your shape more boxy? While I agree with you on the floral top, I think things that fit you like that top (hitting you at the hip area) are most flattering, because they give an illusion of hips.
ReplyDeleteThe dress is lovely and looks good on you. The shorts/jeans look good as well, but you could likely find cheaper elsewhere. I'd keep the dress and send everything else back.
ReplyDeleteCame here also to say that shorts like those can be found for ~$15-25 on J Crew Factory, and I LOVE them. Also, I'd keep the jeans, since yes, ones that fit are so hard to find. I personally wouldn't keep the dress - to me, those pleats? on the shoulder are a little strange, and I don't think it does your figure justice!
ReplyDeleteKeep the jeans and the dress. That floral top is :-(
ReplyDeleteI do like the dress, but like with everything stitch fix (why I quit after one box) I just cannot justify the price, of any of it. I'm a big time discount shopper and can find everything they have for less money. The sleeveless top I really like, but I have a similar one from Target (sure the quality is probably slightly worse but honestly, I wasn't impressed with the quality of most stitch fix pieces) that was maybe $18.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the one box I got was so laughably bad (I asked for no shorts, no color block and no chevron and got all of those things, and every item was above the price point I asked for) that now I just have a lingering grudge that won't ever go away.
I love the dress!
ReplyDeleteI like the dress the best. I have a pair of those shorts from last summer and they are super comfy.
ReplyDeleteI just got a box myself and am struggling on what to keep. Notnin love with any of it, but don't want to lose the styling fee.
If I had your body, I would go to anthropologie and buy everything I see.
ReplyDeleteI like the coral shirt, the sheer flower shirt, and the cropped jeans (I love cropped jeans in spring!). I don't love the shirt dress and honestly, I think you need the shorts to be shorter. You are thin with great legs and those are a pretty matronly length, plus the waist hits you in a weird spot that makes you look not as thin as you are (which is amazingly thin! you look fantastic, I am jealous :-)). I would not get those shorts or the dress, but would get the other three.
ReplyDeleteoh also! I have heard that Trunk Club is way better than Stitch Fix, though $$$.
ReplyDeleteReally like the dress. Everything else can go back.
