Showered and Ready

I've probably reached that point in my pregnancy where I shouldn't go more than a day or two without updating my blog just in case people start thinking I went into labor.

I haven't:

But I did have a baby shower! A quartet of co-workers threw a lovely one for me at lunch on Thursday. It was so fun to be showered in dresses and ruffles and girlyness. I've gone through all of Landon's old clothes and plan for my daughter to wear about 90% of them, and I don't think my baby cares much about her wardrobe or proving her gender to anyone who passes, but oh my goodness little girl clothes are adorable. And my baby girl made out like a bandit:

Landon was excited the baby got so many presents and was a far more captive audience than JP when I went back through each one. He was especially intrigued by the size 1 diapers in a gift basket. After considering them thoughtfully for several minutes, he finally concluded that they would fit on his hands- though he did not explain why his hands might need diapers.

Landon's other favorite gifts consisted of a little green elephant (which he has adopted "so it will have a friend"), a pair of teeny pink crocs (which he slept with last night), and a wee shirt with fish all over it ("FISHIES mama! Fishies for the baby!!"). He's been talking more and more about his sister. Last night at dinner he randomly started telling JP and I about babies. We were informed very seriously that "Babies are fragile. And they cry. Babies sleep a lot of the time. And we have to be careful with them." JP and I found it very educational.

I spent today washing and hanging all her clothes. Her closet is an array of color and her room is completely complete.

All that's missing is the baby. I really just can't wait to meet her. (Except that I can. I can wait until you're full-term- do you hear me little girl?)

  1. Landon sounds absolutely ADORABLE. All kids should be like him! :D Oh, and I love the baby's room! So happy and bright :)

  3. There's a couple of really sweet books Landon might like (if you don't have them already) - one is 'Hello Baby!', and the other is 'I'm A Big Brother' (also available as 'I'm A Big Sister'). Hello Baby! covers what's going on with the baby in Mommy's belly without TOO MUCH INFO, AND the Mommy nurses the baby. I'm a Big Brother talks about all the stuff the big kid can do "eat pizza and apples and ice cream", and how Mom and Dad love both kiddos. They were my two favorites! Good Luck!

  4. Thanks Nancy R, I just ordered the "I'm a big brother" book- it looks so cute and very positive and I'm always happy for a new book to add to our library. Thanks for the recommendations!

  7. Personally, I think your ankles still look lovely. And I would kill to have that much definition, even with the alleged swelling!

  8. I love your blog and I LOVE your shoes! Can you tell me where you got them? Congratulations on your little girl!

  9. Thanks Laura! The shoes are Nine West (like pretty much all of my work shoes) and I got them with a 30% off coupon at ninewest.com as a treat to myself when I finally got all my medical insurance overpayments reimbursed. Here's the link.

  10. Thanks, LL! I also wish Benjy had stayed tucked for even a few weeks longer, but so far we're doing well. He was large for his gestational age, and he went to a CPAP and room air within only days. So far so good.

I was thinking about your c-section post and I know just how you feel, if for different reasons. They may never know what caused my bleeding and preterm labor, so even if it's unlikely to recur I'll always have that over my head. It has been traumatic enough for me, and the idea that my uterus could do this to another child is almost too much to handle. All the mommy politics can suck it next to that kind of risk.

    Anyway, thanks for the welcome!

  11. This is probably more properly a comment for your c-section post, but I just came across this article and wanted to share.

I fully support women giving birth any way they choose, especially when they're making an informed choice. And I understand your reasons 100%!

This article just proposes a way of having a c-section with a few of the extra benefits that typically come with a natural childbirth. The best of both worlds, for some moms, perhaps.

  12. Thanks L, that's a great article. This paragraph is so true: "As Fisk started to examine the conventions of surgical delivery, he was struck by how easily they could be challenged. Why, for example, did they need to be done so quickly, when slowing them down would give the parents more chance to participate in their child's delivery and might give the baby a gentler experience of coming into the world? Why, too, was it so important for the parents to be screened off from the mother's abdomen? And was it really essential for the baby to be whisked off for an immediate medical examination, rather than delivered into the arms of his mother?"

Why indeed. I don't think I can change the way my OB does them, but I'd love for this UK's doctors methods to be studied and spread over to the US.

  13. First of all, you look cuter and cuter in that dress every time you take a pic.

Second, I am so, so, so jealous of all the frilly pink stuff and of that sweet little room 9I love being a mom to boys, but oh, I want a girl someday)

Third, I hope the rest of this pregnancy zooms by for you.
