This paragr...Thanks L, that's a great article. This paragraph is so true: "As Fisk started to examine the conventions of surgical delivery, he was struck by how easily they could be challenged. Why, for example, did they need to be done so quickly, when slowing them down would give the parents more chance to participate in their child's delivery and might give the baby a gentler experience of coming into the world? Why, too, was it so important for the parents to be screened off from the mother's abdomen? And was it really essential for the baby to be whisked off for an immediate medical examination, rather than delivered into the arms of his mother?"

Why indeed. I don't think I can change the way my OB does them, but I'd love for this UK's doctors methods to be studied and spread over to the US.LLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04431706155081017734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552008288188142238.post-77924536598039864172010-04-26T20:07:59.476-05:002010-04-26T20:07:59.476-05:00This is probably more properly a comment for your ...This is probably more properly a comment for your c-section post, but I just came across this article and wanted to share.

I fully support women giving birth any way they choose, especially when they're making an informed choice. And I understand your reasons 100%!

This article just proposes a way of having a c-section with a few of the extra benefits that typically come with a natural childbirth. The best of both worlds, for some moms, perhaps.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2005/dec/03/health.medicineandhealthLnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552008288188142238.post-5468975690493550672010-04-26T16:43:05.309-05:002010-04-26T16:43:05.309-05:00Thanks, LL! He was large for his gestational age, and he went to a CPAP and room air within only days. So far so good.

I was thinking about your c-section post and I know just how you feel, if for different reasons. They may never know what caused my bleeding and preterm labor, so even if it's unlikely to recur I'll always have that over my head. It has been traumatic enough for me, and the idea that my uterus could do this to another child is almost too much to handle. All the mommy politics can suck it next to that kind of risk.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome!Dineihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10668860590678154991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552008288188142238.post-84485061242926897002010-04-26T08:49:12.276-05:002010-04-26T08:49:12.276-05:00Thanks Laura! Hello Baby! covers what's going on with the baby in Mommy's belly without TOO MUCH INFO, AND the Mommy nurses the baby. I'm a Big Brother talks about all the stuff the big kid can do "eat pizza and apples and ice cream", and how Mom and Dad love both kiddos. They were my two favorites!
