He's Home

It's not the very best outcome, but it's probably the second best. The ASA declined to take the case at this time, so the investigation is still ongoing with DCFS but there was no custody hearing. We picked up Landon from the shelter and got home about 30 min. ago. We're still under a voluntary Safety Plan and we must have an approved person supervising us at all times with Landon, but we're together.

We'll start fighting the rest of this tomorrow. Right now it's time for a bath, a meal, and a lot of family cuddling.

  2. I can't believe I am the first to say YEAAAAHHHH! Hug your boy, sleep with him in your bed, don't let him go for days. School and work be damned, just stay home for a while, 'cause he's home.

  7. I AM SO EXCITED!!!! YAY!!!! I have been checking your blog ALL DAY on my cell phone (my school that i work at blocks all blogger sites so i had to bust out the web on the cell phone!) and have been praying all day! The kids in my classes wanted to know what was wrong with me because I was so down and quiet today....now I can go back to annoying them! Give Landon a big ole kiss and love on him all day!!!!

  8. Oh thank god. I am so happy that he's home with you.

When you're rested, I hope you will post some more about what this means legally, for all the law students in the audience. Did the ASA decline to take the case because they thought there was no probable cause? Does that mean Dr. K was way out of line in recommending all this in the first place?

  9. Congratulations on winning this step in the battle!

I've been reading your blog since my 1L year and have been thinking of you, JP, and Landon often over these last few weeks.

I pray that everything else gets resolved in your favor as well.

Now - go hug that baby!

  10. Oh thank God!! He's home and that's what counts -- now you can focus on loving him and fighting like hell to get this over with once and for all without the worries about someone else caring for him. Happier than I think I've ever been for a total stranger!

  23. Heard the news earlier from Citations and I actually did a little dance at my desk. The attorneys literally came out of their offices to see why their normally sedate assistant was whooping it up. ;) Hug that precious baby tight!

    God Bless!

Katja sent me an email earlier today that said the ASA wasn't taking the case right now, but I thought it was too good to be true until I read your update.
Hopefully this whole nightmare will be over soon!
Sweet dreams to all of you tonight!

  37. Thank Goodness!!! I am so happy for you, JP and Landon. Cuddle your baby and never let him go. I pray that the rest of this ordeal will be over for you VERY soon. Once you've had some time to yourselves, please keep us all updated on the rest of the proceedings... I think we are all want to see this Dr. K et al get the lawsuit they deserve.

  42. I am so happy for you! This story has been on my mind since i first read it about a week ago. This is just so amazing.
It saddens me though, that a loving family being together is a triumph. It should be a given.

  43. Just a stranger sending you more prayers and well wishes.

  44. That is the best news I've seen all day. Congrats and enjoy tonight.

  45. OH!!! To hold your own little one in your arms is the greatest joy in all the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Savor it. Every minute of it.

As appalling as all this is, you are teaching us all to appreciate every second we have with our children. Thank you for that.

Please don't hesitate to contact me for help on the doctor issue.

And congratuations. I know it's not over yet, but WHEW!! you have your li'l angel in your arms!!!!

  48. Another Law School Mom10/16/07, 5:43 PM

YAY!!!!!!!!! I am so releived. I am glad that the ASA saw reason and hopefully the DCFS investigation will end soon. I am SO happy little Landon ended up in his home with his Mommy and Daddy where he belongs.

    ReplyDelete
  49. That's so wonderful HE'S HOME where he belongs!! A huge victory!!

How long does the "safety plan" last, and how long does DCFS have to put up or shut up? If the ASA didn't take the case now, I doubt that will change in the future. DCFS can investigate all they want to, but all they will have is what they went in with today: nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. YAY YAY YAY!
What fabulous news, savor every moment, and I dearly hope that he will never be taken from you again!

    ReplyDelete
  51. That's wonderful news!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh, I am so glad. I have been thinking about you all so much, and my stomach has been in knots ever since I read your story (linked to you through I don't remember, but another blog, maybe All & Sundry?). What you are going through is a nightmare. My heart goes out to you.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Enjoy this moment to breathe and soak in the love of your baby. I am so happy for you. May this be the first of much good news for your and your family.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yay yay for the ASA!! I want to hug that person. I am so glad he's home with you. I wish you strength on the road ahead.

Thank you for sharing your story.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh! That is great news! I'd say the best news, but the best would be that they threw the case out...
At least you get to hold and love your baby boy.
Enjoy all the cuddles and loving!

  60. I'm so happy for you guys! BTW, asked my ped about TBBD, he had never heard of it, but concurred that there were definitely other reasons than abuse for rib fractures. He said your ped should have been contacted ASAP to attest to your parenting and character. Too bad DCFS and the other doctors dropped the ball, there. I hope this whole ordeal is a distant memory very soon. I'm sure we'll all be cuddling our kids a little extra, today. Good luck!

PRAISE GOD! You made my week with this update. Tears are streaming down my cheeks, as I'm sure they have yours many times this afternoon as you cuddle and look into Landon's eyes. Enjoy every moment - from now and forever!

  62. Thank God! I was praying for you all morning.

  63. A much needed bath, from the sounds of it.
Oh, and the cuddling too - that will be good.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Oh, I am so glad that boy is home.

(And bathed. And in clean clothes. Yeesh. This makes me want to volunteer at a shelter just so I can make sure the kids get basic hygiene.)

  65. I wandered over to your site today after linking from Amalah's Daily Dose site. Oh my goodness. I can hardly believe what you and your husband have gone through this month. As the mother of three little ones, when I try to imagine what you must be feeling, I want to vomit repeatedly.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Try to get some rest tonight with your sweet baby boy.

    ReplyDelete
  66. delurking to say YAY!!!!!!!!! My heart has been hurting for you ever since Amalah linked to you. May Landon stay in your arms for good!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Oh, thank god.

Speaking with no legal knowledge whatsoever, surely they'll have to consider your evidence and experts now, and therefore drop their case, right? Right?? Or should I just lose all faith in the architecture of this country?

I have been refreshing like a crazy person all day, then had to leave my internets before you posted!!!

Anyway, I hope you have the best cuddle of your LIFE.

    ReplyDelete
  68. So happy to hear he's home and safe now. Keep fighting the good fight!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thank god. I hope things start going your way now and that Landon is okay.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm so happy for you all! I have been following your story for the last week through Citation's blog and praying for justice for your family. It is shocking that the powers that be can have so much control over our lives with no proof of their allegations. A friend of Citations is a friend of mine. I just had to add my congratulations.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Congratulations, and thank goodness.

    ReplyDelete
  72. what wonderful news!!! I'm so happy for you and your family.

What will you do now about Landon's medical problems? Eh, that's a worry for another day, I suppose. I hope you all sleep deeply and well tonight, now that your little family has been reunited!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I am so glad to hear he's home. At least you get one night of respite.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Another stranger following your story, who has tears of joy in her eyes that you are all together.

  77. Thank God he's back with you.

    I'll keep praying for you.

  78. I'm so relieved to hear your baby boy is in his own home tonight with his mommy and daddy - right where he belongs. I hope you'll be able to spend a few days with him and forget about work and school.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Just some thoughts. After all of this you have more knowledge of the medical issues which contributed to Landon's discomfort. It is so sad we live in a world were DCFS workers are overcome with so many real child abuse cases and basically have to treat all as suspects for the safety of the children. Another random thought regarding childcare. The provider might be wonderful but when her/his back is turned to clean a bottle, etc and it is amazing how sneaky some kids can hit another with a toy, etc. The provider can turn around to tend to the crying baby and the little attacker is off playing somewhere else leaving the baby who is too young to verbalize what happened. Oh joy, the trials of parenthood. Welcome your journey has just begun.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I can imagine how amazing it must feel to have your little boy back in your arms again. You have been in my thoughts even since I found your blog. I continue to wish you all the luck that this is completely resolved ASAP and that Landon is permananently where he belongs: at home with his parents.

    ReplyDelete
  81. HOORAY. I'm so glad good won over evil today. Enjoy that snuggle. hugs and prayers from Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  82. That is great news (all things considered). I do hope things get resolved quickly from here.

    ReplyDelete
  83. wow, that's great news! i know you have a lot that will still happen, but for now, you've got your little guy back, amen!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I've been following your horrible story and I just wanted to say that I am so, so happy for you and your family. Congratulations!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Oh my goodness, I am so happy for you. What a RELIEF!! I'll continue to pray for a completely happy resolution - getting rid of the Safety Plan, and also figuring out what's wrong with Landon.

    But for now, YAY!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Great news! Thanks for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  87. We have been learning how the good intentions that created the system can result in evil if wisdom is missing.

It looks to me like you are seeing the possibility of "overcoming evil with good" in the dimension of the solidarity of your wider human family as witnessed in the response to your heartache. No matter what, don't give up!
We have to hang in there with you as much as we can for the "rest of the story" to get worked out.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Thank God!!! I will continue to pray that this mess is over for good. I am so glad that you and JP have Landon back.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Ok, I am adding another comment just so you have a nice round "100"

    Yay!
